Tissue Banking
You have been invited to voluntarily agree for tissue that has been taken as part of routine procedures, such as biopsies and blood tests, to be stored long term into something called a ‘biobank’ or ‘tissue bank’. These samples will be stored until a researcher with an ethically approved research project would like to use samples from the biobank to conduct their research. The samples will not be identifiable back to you for the researchers, however in the case of the research finding something that could potentially be clinically relevant to you, staff from the biobank will be able to link the samples back to you in order to feed this back to your and/or your clinical team.
The Vivo biobank is a collaboration between the Cancer Research UK and Blood Cancer UK and is the first biobank dedicated to the collection of samples from children and young people with cancer in the UK. For more information please see their website: https://vivobiobank.org/participants
