Genomics for profressionals
Who is eligible for Whole Genome Sequencing?
- All paediatric (<25 years old) solid tumours
- All paediatric (<25 years old) haematological malignancies
- Sarcoma (excluding GIST)
- Adult acute leukaemia
- Triple negative breast cancer
- High grad Serous Ovarian
- Adult Central Nervous System malignancies
- Cancer of Unknown Primary
- Solid tumour and haematological malignancies where SOC testing and treatment has been exhausted
Process of requesting Whole Genome Sequencing
- Record of Discussion (RoD) with patient (consent process)
- Test Order Form (TOF) – formally requests the test to be performed on the samples.
Tips for completing the Test Order Form: Make sure to enter the correct ‘M’ code for the patient’s phenotype as this will direct the analysis of the sequencing to generate the most meaningful interpretation. The National Test Directory is where you can find the full list of test with their respective M codes: https://www.england.nhs.uk/publication/national-genomic-test-directories
- Send referral to GLH (GOSH for North Thames region) – gos-tr.wgsnorththamesglh@nhs.net
- Sample collection – fresh frozen tissue required to yield sufficient tumour DNA quality for solid tumours. All cancer patients must have 1x somatic (tumour) DNA and 1x germline DNA.
- Sample sent to GLH lab – Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, Levels 4-6 Barclay House, 37, Queen Square, London WC1N 3BH
- Results returned to referring clinical team – via genomics tumour advisory board (GTAB)
